TUCSON FEDERAL ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF $45,000 COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP FUNDS

(Published May 29, 2013)

Tucson Federal Credit Union (TFCU) is proud to announce the selection of Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson as recipient of their Third Annual $25,000 Community Partnership. In addition, TFCU granted one $10,000 award each to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson and the El Rio Health Center Foundation, bringing this year’s total Community Partnership contribution to $45,000.

In order to be considered for the Community Partnership, the non-profits’ vision and goals must align with TFCU’s philosophy of supporting programs or events that directly benefit education, youth, or the Tucson community.

Tucson Federal Credit Union will present the $25,000 award to the Boys & Girls Clubs in June. As the largest youth-serving organization of its kind, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson has a current membership of more than 8,000 at-risk kids at their 6 local clubhouses. The $25,000 Community Partnership will provide critical funding to the Roy Drachman, Jim and Vicki Click, and Holmes Tuttle Clubhouses, each of which has a membership of nearly 2,000 youth. The donation will allow the organization to reintroduce their Arts and Crafts Program, which had been eliminated due to budget cuts.

First-time donation recipient Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson will use their $10,000 award to support their one-to-one adult to child mentoring program; the need for which has grown by 15% in the last year. The El Rio Health Center Foundation, recipient of a $10,000 award in 2013 and former recipient of the $25,000 award in 2011 and 2012, will use the donation to help complete their new Congress medical facility, including a named exam room in the diabetes clinic area; special sponsorship for their 12thAnnual Gala; and support for their vital early childhood developmental program, “Reach Out and Read.”

TFCU was founded in 1937 as Tucson Teachers Federal Credit Union. TFCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers, or attends school in Pima County.  Today, TFCU has grown to more than 49,000 members and seven locations in Tucson, Marana, and Sahuarita.  Their growth and success comes from those members who use their services, a dedicated group of volunteers who are elected by their members to represent them, and a great staff who are committed to creating an exceptional experience.
